I’m Mathis Richtmann. I’m a correspondent and bureau chief for Germany’s news agency dpa in Islamabad. Our westasia-team covers stories from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran.

Previously, I worked as a visual reporter at Deutsche Welle. My work there focused on the intersections of finance and society. You can find my portfolio of work for DW here.

In 2023, we published From bazooka to backstop: the political economy of standing swap facilities in Cambridge Journal of Economics.

In a team of four we began drafting a comic book on financialization at an art residency at PACT Zollverein in October 2021.
